HEREWARD HELPING HANDS

The idea of “Herewards helping hands” (which is a way of “doing something” worthwhile rather than just give money to a local charity). It provides  tangible help and promotes the Ely HEREWARD  club in its activities. So  together with the support of Star Radio and the Ely Standard, Ely Hereward  aim to help a local charity or community group with a project  by providing a “days” worth of FREE help from volunteers to do the project. Welcome to the website of the

Ely-Hereward Rotary Club

Ely's evening Rotary Club

Our Club was formed in 2004 by a small group of people who were looking at ways of putting something back into the local community, and at the same time having fun and enjoying the company of like minded people.

We pride ourselves in that our members come from all walks of life – both male and female – and meet weekly at the Lamb Hotel in  Ely for a wide variety of social activities, details of which can be found on our Social Calendar

  • We are now into our seventh year - and since starting our Club, membership has grown considerably despite the pressures we all face with our working day and family lives.  You may be surprised to learn that our membership is split 50:50  men and women

  • Our Club's style is informal, flexible and progressive -which we believe helps  broaden the appeal of Rotary and encourages people to consider becoming Rotarians  where they might not have done so before
  • If the idea of helping others worse off than ourselves, and making new and lasting friendships  through membership of Rotary and our Club in particular,  then please contact our membership Secretary Frank Connolly, who will be please to provide further details
  • Since 2004 our Club has raised over £30,000 for local, national, international charities and good causes, which we think is a great achievement.

These  are some charities and appeals our club have helped:

  • Local Charities: Care Network, Age Concern, STRADA, EACH, REBOOT,MENTFOR
  • National Charities:  British Legion, Marie Curie, Bowel Cancer UK, Diabetes UK, DEBRA, GOSH, NSPCC
  • International appeals: We have sent a number of Shelterboxes to disaster areas throughout the World. We also collected over £8000 in the City of Ely for the Tsunami disaster appeal, and most recently the Haiti disaster, which regretably  has claimed so many lives.

Please do take a tour round our website, discover how a modern Rotary Club can really make a difference to others less fortunate than ourselves.
