Presidents Monthly Blog July ‘11
Hello Club members,
Well what an eventful start
Firstly congratulations to everybody at Aquafest. Fantastic day. All the hard work everybody put in raised £550 for our club, with hopefully more to come from the final accounts for Aquafest.
Also it was nice to return to the Lamb, and I was pleased that we had Pat Dalrymple as our speaker on my first evening as President, as Teenage Cancer Trust is my nominated charity.
Fundraising is a key thing I want to focus on. It is one of the reasons we are all in Rotary. Having a good fundraising programme helps takes the financial burden off the members. .
In my short time as President I have already heard many good ideas for fund raising, and club meetings. This is great, and we shouldn’t be afraid to “think outside the box” where this is concerned. You can never have enough fund raising ideas. From the many, a few will be successful. So that is why everybody within the club, should be encouraged to suggest things.
My goals personally are to meet each member individually and find out what ideas they might have for the club, and for fund raising, and how they can help us in this. You are always very welcome to come to the council meetings with your thoughts and ideas, or pass these onto myself, so I can raise them for you.
I plan to hold a brain storming session on fund raising at the earliest Weds available so we can get things rolling, and make a real impact on our local community, so they can see the fun we have in helping others.
I also believe that, if we can focus on fund raising, we can achieve any targets we set ourselves.
I think we have an exciting year ahead, and I think it’s good that we are a club that challenges the status quo, (e.g RIBI subs) and I’m quite prepared to take that debate to district council if the club agrees.
I only have a one year shot at this, so I'm going to do my very best to help the club prosper, and be even more successful.
Yours in Rotary
Maurice
