The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are a unique opportunity for Rotary clubs and districts in RIBI to be part of the biggest sporting event these islands have seen for years. People are coming together, from all over the world, to celebrate the achievements and talents of their athletes. Let's help them enjoy the experience and tell them about Rotary.
The RIBI Olympic Committee is here to support your ideas and help your club be part of the Olympic dream by supporting RIBI youth programmes and community events which are linked with the games.
When the starting pistol is fired in July, Rotary clubs need to be ready for action.
Olympics, 27th July - 12th August
The Olympic Games and Paralympics are not just in London. Football games are kicking off at Hampden Park, Old Trafford, St. James’ Park, the Millennium Stadium and City of Coventry Stadium. Sailing events are taking place at Weymouth and Portland. Find out what event is near you.
Paralympics, 29th August - 9th September 2012
The Paralympics have everyone of the edge of their seat as athletes go for gold. You could organise a special outing to a Paralympics event for disabled and able-bodied children from your area.
Wheelpower is working with Rotary clubs to provide 2012 sports wheelchair packages to give children with mobility problems the opportunity to participate in sport, some for the first time.
Some Rotary clubs are already sponsoring a young athlete who is competing in the Paralympic Games. UK Athletics have identified some Paralympic hopefuls who would like support to be able to compete.
Do the organisers of a Paralympics event need help with transport and stewarding? You could lend a hand and help competitors have a safe and enjoyable day.
Torch relay
The Olympic Torch Relay route has been announced. The symbolic flame will be at most an hour away from you so find out where the flame will be and cheer on the inspirational people who are carrying it by going along. Perhaps the flame bearer is someone you know or nominated. You can pick someone to do the honour here.
Kids to the Games
Clubs have the opportunity to purchase group organiser tickets and organise a KidsOut type event to take disabled and able-bodied youngsters to the Paralympic Games.
You can apply for tickets to the London 2012 Paralympic Games between 9 September 2011 and 30 September 2011.
Ticketing initiatives include group organiser tickets, allowing groups who apply for 20 tickets or more per session to receive additional tickets at no extra charge, and special day passes which will enable ticket holders to see a range of sports in the Olympic Park on that day on a general admission basis.
Prices for spectators, aged under 16 or over 60 on 29 August 2012, will start from just £5. A London Travelcard is included in the price of tickets for the day of the event. For more information, visit the ticket prices and competition schedule page on the official website Select your participants, order your tickets and get set to enjoy a great day out! Work For Purpose
Help sweep in the changes for your chosen charity or Rotary club by helping clean up the Olympic Village.
You can apply and be trained up by the offically acredited company, Clenevent. This could give you, and local charities, the opportunity to raise funds.
