Welcome to the Rotary Club of Ely - Hereward web site.
The Rotary Club of Ely-Hereward is a young club (Chartered in 2004) with a fast growing reputation for being modern, energetic, progressive and having a good balance of male and female members.
We meet at 7.30 for 8.00 on Wednesday evenings usually at the Lamb Hotel in Ely but sometimes arrange events elsewhere, so please check our calendar.
As a club we endeavour to provide men and women of every race, colour and creed with the opportunity to put something back into the local community – thereby upholding the Rotary motto “Service before self”.
If this ideal appeals to you, why not come along to one of our meetings as a guest and find out more about us.You will always receive a friendly welcome at our club and will soon discover that as well as achieving our aims and objectives we enjoy ourselves while doing it.
Full details of how to join and details of our forward Social Programme and planned Fund Raising Projects can be found on this website.
We look forward to meeting you.
Yours in Rotary
Alan Hampton

ROTARY RELIEF REACHES CYCLONE RAVAGED MYANMAR
Shelterbox, a grassroots disaster relief
organization set up by Rotary members in the UK,
was among the first charities to reach the affected area of cyclone ravaged Myanmar, as
other agencies continue to struggle to gain access.
A specially trained team of volunteers was
on the ground Thursday (May 8) preparing to distribute more than 800 Shelterbox
containers, each providing a tent, blankets, a multi-fuelled stove, a water
purification kit, tools and other necessities to help a family of 10 survive
for six months.
Some containers carried two 10-person tents, doubling the
shelter capacity. The first Shelterbox deployment will benefit more than 10,000
people.
Shelterbox founder and Rotary
club member Tom Henderson from Cornwall says:
"224 containers left a pre-positioned site in Dubai on Tuesday. Another 220 boxes left from
Melbourne, Australia,
while 400 are in route from Shelterbox headquarters in Cornwall, England."
"Our team of volunteers will
work in cooperation with local groups in Myanmar to line up transportation
and determine where the shelters will do the most good amid the massive
devastation. Up to 100,000 people are estimated to have died and 70,000
people are missing, and the destruction of entire communities has left tens of
thousands of people homeless. We need to act quickly to help the survivors."
~Our Club is proud to be one of the first to sponsor a shelterbox for this major disaster
